Water pollution degrades surface waters, making them unsafe for drinking, fishing, swimming and other activities.
Since 1972 the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System has authorized The Clean Water Act with the intention of improving water quality throughout the United States.
In 1999 the EPA enacted regulations known as EPA Phase II Storm Water Rule.
The City of Byrnes Mill, having several miles of frontage on the Big River, has developed its Storm Water Plan and has made the plan available to the public at City Hall (address below) and here on its Internet site.
