Submit Your Photos For Use at www.byrnesmill.org

• One way to submit your photo is to attach it to an email addressed to grant@grantmaclaren.com
  If your photo is accepted for use on our website, our webmaster will prepare it for use on the site and post it. In this case, you may send files as they come from your camera, scanner, etc. Please send a suggested title and the name of the photographer.
• If you would rather submit photos "ready for use," please use this information:
  • We want photos on our site to load fast, even when a visitor is using a telephone modem.
  • All photos used on our site must have a resolution of 72 dpi. (Finer resolutions will not improve the appearance of photos on computer screens, and just slow their loading.)
  • A photo used on our home page should be "horizontal." i. e., Its width should exceed its height. (If a photo is used elsewhere on the site, another orientation might be suitable, but we want to keep scrolling to a minimum on our home page.)
  • The single photo on our home page is 432 pixels (or 6 inches) wide. Heights vary, but 288 pixels (or 4 inches) is a good goal.
  • As the photo editor, you might consider using the sharpening feature of your photo editing application.
  • After all the above specifications have been met, the photo file should be optimized for use on the internet. In Photoshop, use the "File" > "Save for Web. Then select "JPEG" and "Medium." The file size of an optimized 4 x 6 photo will be less than 50K.
  • When submitting a photo, please suggest a title -- and be sure to give us the name of the photographer.
  • Here is an example of a photo prepared for use on our home page:

  • Notice the photo is displayed with a 1 pixel wide black "key line" around the photo, a title and the photographer's name. In rare instances, the key line may be eliminated.
  • If you want to add a drop shadow, your own key line and/or text within your photo, please consider how it will affect the rest of the page.
